Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plans

In rural communities like Athens County, coordinated transportation programs can help to more effectively address the mobility and accessibility needs of rural residents. Especially for less mobile members of the community such as low income, seniors, and disabled individuals, programs that ensure equitable services are critical.  In 2007, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) awarded a grant to assist Athens County in the development of a Locally Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan (Coordinated Plan).  In 2013, Athens County’s Coordinated Plan was again updated.

In 2017 the Ohio Department of Transportation awarded a grant to Athens and Hocking Counties to assist in the development of a completely updated 2018 Athens County Coordinated Transportation Plan.  Surveys, round tables, and a planning committee consisting of local organizations established transportation goals and strategies for the future of Athens County.
