Athens Public Transit

Athens Public Transit (APT) is a fixed route public bus system serving the City of Athens, Ohio, including Albany, Nelsonville, the Village of Chauncey, and The Plains.

Upcoming Holiday Closures
Athens Public Transit will not run on the following days:
- Labor Day - Monday, Sept 4, 2023
- Thanksgiving - Thursday, Nov 23, 2023

Service Reduction
Effective Saturday, August 28, Athens Public Transit will suspend its Saturday service and services to Line 5. We hope this will be temporary and plan to return service as soon as possible. Updated schedules will be posted soon.

Summit Service
Fall semester service will start August 28th.
Weekday loops will run Monday-Friday 7:00am to 9:30pm
Weekend loops will run Fridays & Saturdays 9:30pm to 2:30am

Courtyard Service
Fall semester service will state August 28th.
Weekday loops will run Mondays, Tuesdays, & Wednesdays 7:00am to 8:00pm, Thursdays 7:00am to 10:00pm, and Fridays 7:00am to 7:25pm
Weekend loops will run Fridays & Saturdays 7:25pm to 2:00am

Line 2 runs from Holzer Clinic on East State Street to Campus Heights on Richland Ave in Athens

Route Frequency: Once every hour

Hours of Operation:
Monday - Friday 7:30am to 7:23pm
Saturday service is temporarily suspended


Line 3 runs from Market on State on East State Street to Andover Road in Athens

Route Frequency: Once every hour

Hours of Operation:
Monday - Friday 6:48am to 9:56pm
Saturday service is temporarily suspended


Line 4 runs from Market on State on East State Street to 2nd Street in Athens

Route Frequency: Once every hour

Hours of Operation:
Monday - Friday 7:45am to 9:45pm
Saturday service is temporarily suspended


Line 5 runs between Athens and The Plains

Route Frequency: Once every hour

Hours of Operation:
Line 5 is temporarily suspended. Passengers should look to Line 6.


Line 6 runs between Athens and Chauncey

Route Frequency: Once every hour

Hours of Operation:
Monday - Friday 6:52am to 6:57pm
Saturday service is temporarily suspended

Line 7a runs between Athens and Albany

Route Frequency: Once every hour

Hours of Operation:
Monday - Friday 6:45am to 6:40pm
Saturday service is temporarily suspended


Line 7 runs between Athens and Nelsonville

Route Frequency: Once every hour

Hours of Operation:
Monday - Friday 6:45am to 5:45pm
Saturday service is temporarily suspended

 


In addition to the above routes, APT also provides bus service to The Summit at Coates Run and University Courtyard apartment complexes.

Closures

Athens Public Transit is closed Sundays and for the following national holidays:
New Year’s Day
Memorial Day
4th of July
Labor Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas Eve
Christmas Day

Athens Public Transit also suspends bus service during Level 3 snow emergencies.

Fares

General public bus fare is $1.00, with a reduced fare of $0.50 available for patrons who are elderly or have disabilities (subject to verification). More information can be found on our Fare Discount Eligibility page. All vehicles are built to ADA standards to better serve patrons with disabilities.

Reasonable Modification

APT provides reasonable modification to policies and procedures to customers to ensure they can effectively use the agency’s transit services. Individuals requesting a modification should clearly describe what they need in order to use APT’s bus and paratransit services. To make a request, please contact us:
